Darlene was setting Valentine down for a nap when suddenly…she was on fire.
The flames started in her midsection, spreading outwards until it engulfed her entire torso. They licked down her arms, to her fingers and toes. She screamed out in agony. Why? Why had she done this to herself? As her frail body crumpled to the floor, she began to worry. Had she done something wrong? Surely it shouldn’t be this agonizing! The only woman screamed out once more as her body seemed to burn away from the inside out. She heard the distant wails of her grandson in the room upstairs, and tears filled her eyes. She had awoken the baby with her own cries. But just as soon as the flames had erupted, they were gone.
Darlene picked herself off the ground slowly, still weary about what side effects could be coming up next. But she felt fine. The agonizing fire had scorched her body all over, but only lasted a few minutes. Darlene held out her arm and looked down, expecting the flesh to be burned off or charred black, but she looked perfectly normal. There was a faint glow to her skin, and a flutter began to stir in her chest. She made her way to the bathroom- unusually fast for such an elderly woman- and glanced in the mirror. Her breath caught in her throat.
Whomever had started the myth about vampires not being able to see their own reflections certainly had their facts wrong. A familiar reflection stared back at Darlene, but there was something foreign about her face. Her eyes glowed a bright white, and her face gave off the same luminescence as her arm. It worked! She thought to herself, bringing her fingers to touch the strikingly cold skin covering her cheek.
Darlene did not know what to think as she ran her fingers over her face, feeling the hardness of her own flesh to be unnerving. On one hand, she was grateful and knew she had made the right choice. Her grandson would be cared for now. She would always be with him. He would always be safe. But…at what cost to her?

Darlene Bunch-Steel, before and after.
Good God, EA.

Aside from the occasional peek-his-head-in-and-glance-at-his-son, Jace was a very hands-off father. He love his son in his own way of course, but Jace had never wanted a child. He hated children in general. They were weak, always crying and defecating on themselves.  And so, much of Valentine’s care was left to Jace’s mother Darlene.
Darlene had quit her work in Law Enforcement to stay home full-time with her grandson. She was an elderly, mortal Sim who loved her grandson more than anything else in the world. Unfortunetly, Jace took advantage of this and turned his mother into more of a nanny than anything else.
Darlene didn’t seem to mind. It had been hard raising Jace as a single mother, even before he was Bitten. Darlene felt as though she finally had another chance at caring for another life. But she was worried…she knew she was nearing the end of her life span. What would happen to the young boy when she passed? Jace certainly wasn’t fit to care for him, she shivered at the thought of leaving the boy alone with his father. It’s not that Jace was neglectful, but Darlene knew he would not receive the kind of care and compassion a growing Sim needed, half-vampire or not. Darlene knew what she had to do…she had the resource she needed right under her own roof. She had the best interest of her grandson in mind, but that certainly didn’t make the decision any more pleasant….

Jace also has a son, Valentine Steel.
Valentine’s mother is a mortal Sim whom Jace had a one-time fling with. He had only just entered his Young Adult years and became a full-fledged vampire. He wasn’t aware that he still had child bearing abilities, but three whole Sim days later, this little boy was dropped off on Jace’s doorstep with a note reading

“You did this to me. You created this…thing. He is not my child. He is a monster.  Good luck, Mr. Steel.”

Before & After

People call me Taylor. Anything else is indifferent.
I tell it like it is.
I didn't come here to get 'simblr famous'. I like to write. I like to play Sims.
Here, what you see is what you get.
I'm of the male gender for future reference.
